2020年入选国家万人计划科技创新领军人才。主要研究兴趣为机器学习理论和方法,已在TPAMI、ICML等高水平期刊会议上发表系列学术论文,其中中科院一区期刊论文200余篇,CCF A类会议长文100余篇。论文总被引用30000余次,H指数99。入选科睿唯安“全球高被引科学家”,爱思唯尔“中国高被引学者”,Guide2Research“全球顶尖计算机科学家”,斯坦福大学“全球前2%顶尖科学家”等榜单,在新智元发布的“华人AI学术影响力Top100”名单中排名第9,在清华大学发布的2021年“人工智能最具影响力学者”榜单中位居经典AI子领域全球第3。荣获CCF自然科学奖一等奖、吴文俊人工智能自然科学奖二等奖等奖项。
